Tara’s African Adventures- October 2009
“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him.” Psalms 37:4-7
Travels, Friends, and School…. Thank you for your prayers for safe travel and a time of rest and relaxation. I had the opportunity to connect with some friends throughout Africa the last couple of weeks. What a blessing to see the many ways God has been working in and through them! About a week and a half ago I was able to meet up with a childhood friend of mine who came to visit. Katie and I enjoyed a crazy, eye opening adventure to Rwanda. Let’s just say there was a REALLY long bus ride or two. Our hearts were broken as we experienced the memorial for the genocide that happened there. Please continue to pray for the many hearts and lives that were affected by those terrible events. Katie accompanied me to Sudan and has been helping out at the school teaching math, art, and other odds and ends. The third term is in full swing and we are excited to have the system down a bit more! Thanks for your prayers.
Changes….In my last update I asked for prayers regarding future changes in my life. Thank you for the prayers and emails as you have been lifting me up before the Lord. It is SO exciting to be part of this journey and see where God leads. Some of these changes may come as a surprise to some and an answer to prayers for others. The verse I quoted God has laid on my heart throughout the years and recently he has revealed so many of the desires of my heart. He has allowed me to come and serve in Sudan and provide a ministry and people that have touched my heart beyond belief. But also in the last eight months he has brought a very amazing, God fearing and mission minded man into my life! Brian and I were introduced in the states and have spent the last eight months writing each other and have also had the opportunity to meet up a few times. It has been overwhelming to see God’s hand on this relationship. We have many things in common and both have a passionate heart to continue serving God in Africa. Brian is currently serving in a non disclosed Muslim country where he has been for the last five years. As we have prayed and sought the advice of Godly leaders in our lives we have made some decisions about the upcoming year. We know that God is calling us together and we also know that to continue this relationship we need to have some time together in a common and less stressful location. After receiving the approval from our leaders we have decided to return to the states in December for some time to continue to seek God and pursue this relationship towards marriage. You may be asking what does this mean for the future. We are not giving up missions but we are starting a new path in our lives and want to start with a solid foundation. It is a requirement from our sending agency that we spend a year back in the states after we are married to build a solid foundation. God willing we are planning to return to the field in the spring of 2011. Our time in the states will consist of ministry and furlough, so we will continue to be on support during this time. I am looking forward to connecting with each one of you when I return home. I would love to share with you how God is working in Sudan and introduce you to the new love of my life! Here are some of our goals for the following months:
· Return mid December; spend time connecting with family and friends and each other!
· Connect with churches and individual supporters- please let me know if you would like us to share our ministries with you!
· Continuing Education- Brian and I would both like to take some classes to further prepare us for returning to the field.
· Renewing my health- taking time to visit doctors and rest to get my body back on track!
· Raising support for our new ministry together- we are praying for direction regarding where.
· Helping ECA with curriculum development and sponsorship program.
· Book- I am working on writing a book about my experiences in Sudan!
I would covet your prayers for these new changes in my life. Know that many hours have been given in seeking God regarding these decisions. It’s not easy to leave Sudan for a time and take a step of faith, but I know that God is leading and guiding and he has made it clear in so many ways. What does this mean for the future of ECA? I have learned throughout my time here in Sudan that GOD is in control. He has a plan for ECA and he will bring it to completion. We have welcomed a new teacher from the states this last week, but we are still in need of more teachers- American and Nationals. Please pray with me regarding this issue- anyone interested? I know without a shadow of a doubt that God will take care of this school – he is faithful!
PRAISES:

PRAYERS:

Brian-To also finish strong as he leaves the field, we are also looking for a place for him to stay starting in January in the Twin Cities, any suggestions?
Thank you all for your continual love and support. I know this is a lot to take in at this time and I value your thoughts and prayers over the matters of my heart I have shared with you.
God bless-
Tara
