Update from Paul Abels

CIMG1807 Thank you for your prayers. We are happy to let you know that the Lord answered our requests positively and we would like you to join us in thanking and praising the Lord for His mercies.

  • For John Abel -  He was able to recuperate and return to the U.S. to get further treatment there for his prostate problem.
  • For our classes at Bible School – We enjoyed teaching, and our hours with the students were a blessing. Part of the homework assignment includes planning the children and youth camps in July, so we will be returning to Campo Mourão for two weeks in July.
  • For our time with Del, Jim and Linda encouraging the pastors – They were able to visit 13 Free Lutheran churches here and had contact with all but one of our national pastors. The messages were practical and encouraging, and their presence helped unite us as we look towards the future.
  • For our sixth annual Passion Play - About 1000 people came out for the performances this year under star-studded skies and a beautiful full moon.  We pray that the impacting message of the life, death and triumphant resurrection of Christ coupled with the evangelistic message and Gospel tracts given out will draw people to Jesus.  Last week we had a soup supper at the ARCA to thank all the play participants (more than 70) and to see photos of the event.
  • For Yara’s missionary trip to Paraguay – She came back with stories to tell of teaching children and encouraging people in hard-to-get-to places, arriving by boat and working in the very hot temperatures.  Yara has also had recent opportunities to share Jesus in the public school here in Bateias.

Other newsworthy items

  • Building is underway for the Primavera Project church in Borda do Campo. The metal frame is up and they have a beginning.  The church group in that area is very low income so the continuation of the project will be little by little. Pray for this group of believers as they reach out in their community.
  • Our trip to Iguaçu Falls was great!  The congregation was very thankful to share the joy of the dedication of their new sanctuary with a nice group of Americans.  The place was full that night. They have high hopes that the new building will facilitate their ministry and outreach.
  • Alisha returned to the U.S. after spending three months with us.  She will be graduating from Bible School this weekend.  Pray for her as she seeks the Lord for the next step in His plan for her life.
  • Saturday Paul and I will be leaving on a trip to the northeastern part of Brazil.  We will visit our good friends Gary and Sherry Hauter who direct the Bethany Fellowship Bible School ministry in Petrolina.  We will also visit other Christian friends in Recife.  We understand that there are many cities in the northeast which have no Christian witness.  Perhaps the Free Lutheran church should consider starting ministry in this area in the future.  Another goal of our trip is to relax and enjoy one another as we celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Our good friends Gerson and Indioara (Christina’s in-laws) will be traveling with us.  Pray for safety, good fellowship, and God’s provision for economical places to stay along the way.
  • One more prayer request – Jaime’s daughter, Heidy, continues in a psychological treatment program and is not doing well.  She has no will to live.  As the Lord brings her to mind, please pray for this sixteen-year old girl that she might give her life over to the Lord and be transformed.

Hope spring arrives soon for you in the U.S.  I noticed the temperature in MN today is pretty chilly.  Fall is upon us here with the leaves falling and cooler temperatures.  We are thankful for our unchanging God who is the same in all seasons and in all places and for all time.  May He be Lord in your thoughts and actions today!  Take a moment to read His Word and receive His encouragement.

Yours for the Kingdom,

Paul and Becky
